About Robert L. Heilbroner

Robert Louis Heilbroner was born on March 24 1919, and spent his childhood in New York. He was a Harvard graduate in philosophy, government, and economics. After university during World War II he joined the US Army, and became interested in a German economist Adolf Lowe. After the war Robert earned his Ph.D at the New School. He was known at the New School by Norman Thomas Professor of Economics. In 1953 he wrote his best seller The Worldly Philosophers, that was the second best selling Economics book that sold about four million copies. He died in 2005 at the age of 85, from Lewy Body Disease.
